ON ARRIVAL IN KENYA

Health Screening & Compliance Checks

Upon arrival in Kenya, all international travellers may be subject to routine Port Health screening conducted by Kenyan authorities at the point of entry.

Travellers who are required to hold a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate must be prepared to present the certificate before immigration clearance.

If a required Yellow Fever certificate is not presented:
  • You may be required to receive vaccination at the port of entry (where available), or
  • You may be placed under health surveillance, or
  • Entry may be delayed or denied at the discretion of health and immigration authorities.

The Local Organising Committee strongly advises delegates to confirm their requirements well in advance to avoid unnecessary delays on arrival.

HEALTH REQUIREMENT

Yellow Fever Certificate

Kenya requires a valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate for travellers aged 1 year and above arriving from, or transiting through, countries with risk of Yellow Fever transmission, in line with WHO International Health Regulations (IHR).

You may be required to show a certificate if:
  • You are travelling from a Yellow Fever risk country (commonly in parts of Africa and South/Central America).
  • You transited through a risk country for more than 12 hours before arriving in Kenya.
Note: The certificate is valid 10 days after vaccination and is generally recognised as valid for life once valid.

YELLOW FEVER FAQs

Common Questions

Do I need it if I am only connecting through another country?

You may need it if your transit through a Yellow Fever risk country is more than 12 hours (even if you do not leave the airport).

What if I was vaccinated recently?

The certificate is only valid 10 days after vaccination. If you arrive earlier than that, you may face delays or denial at entry.

What if I cannot take the vaccine for medical reasons?

You should carry an official medical exemption letter. Entry decisions remain subject to port health and immigration checks on arrival.
