About the 68^th International Sugar Council

A Global Forum on Sugar Policy, Trade, and Sustainability

The 68^th International Sugar Council Meeting brings together senior government officials, industry leaders, technical experts, and institutional partners from across the world to deliberate on the strategic direction of the global sugar sector.

Convened under the auspices of the International Sugar Organization (ISO), the Council serves as the Organization’s highest decision-making forum, providing a platform for policy dialogue, data-driven insights, and collaboration on issues shaping sugar production, trade, sustainability, and market stability.

The 2026 Council will be hosted by the Government of the Republic of Kenya, reflecting the country’s growing role in regional and global agricultural policy discourse.

Purpose of the Council

The Council provides an opportunity for Member Countries and Observers to:

Review global sugar market trends and policy developments

Consider strategic and administrative matters of the International Sugar Organization

Exchange views on sustainability, innovation, and competitiveness in the sugar value chain

Strengthen cooperation among producing, consuming, and trading nations

Foster dialogue between governments, industry stakeholders, and development partners

Discussions are guided by evidence, mutual respect, and the shared objective of ensuring a resilient and sustainable global sugar sector.

As one of Africa’s key sugar-producing countries, Kenya is actively advancing policy, institutional, and technological reforms aimed at improving productivity, farmer welfare, and market efficiency.
